Issue 41 of The Lifted Brow is almost here! Our first issue of the year. It’s at the printers now, and officially out at the start of March, when you’ll be able to find it on bookstore and newsagent shelves everywhere.

But: if you want to be first to receive and read it, even before our stockists, then subscribe now.

Issue 41 features an incredibly strong mix of new work – including wide-ranging essays, provocative fiction, biting commentary, thoughtful criticism, vibrant poetry, and as always so many pages of comics and visual art.

With cover art by renowned artist Molly Dyson, Issue 41 of The Lifted Brow includes

  • nonfiction from: Tabitha Prado-Richardson, who traces the history, politics, and pleasure of Astrology; Aimee Knight investigating the critical field of gendered listening; 2018 Experimental Non-Fiction runner up Cassandra Rockwood-Rice, offering a lyrical exploration of generational trauma; Gina Rushton with a meditation on the ethics of pawnbroking and addiction cycles; Isobel Parker Philip, who weaves a lyric essay on the wind, Anne Carson, Tasmanian colonial history, and the vulnerability of necks; Antonia Pont who ruminates upon consent by tackling questions of anger and rejection; and new experimental memoir writing from WJP Newnham;

  • curious new fiction from Camilla Grudova and Nick Robinson; and a Sheree Joseph short story about a raucous night in a Beirut nightclub;

  • translated fiction from Chloé Savoie-Bernard on the juncture between desire, race, and the body, brought into English from the Canadian French by Frances Egan;

  • new poetry from Holly Friedlander Liddicoat, Harry Reid, Aden Rolfe, and Arden Levine;

  • columns: Michael Dulaney’s ‘Environment’ column, Hayley Singer’s ‘Ecology’ column, and Benjamin Law and his mum Jenny’s ‘Law School’ sex advice column;

  • plus new comics and visual art by Michael Fikaris, Lasse Wandschneider, Caroline Wylds, Haein Kim, Bridget Mullen, Grace Rosario Perkins, Lee Lai, Nancy Li, Neva Hosking, Jo Ruessmann, Trevor Shin, Ali Chalmers, Natalia Zajaz, Claude Joyeux, Pete Warden, Rosemary Vasquez-Brown, Claudia Chinyere Akole, and Peo Michie.
