Structural Changes
Over the past year, the board has worked to address a number of TLB’s key structural issues. With the assistance of an external consultant, we have drafted new foundational documents to form the basis of TLB’s restructure. These foundational documents are:
A TLB Society Governance Policy
A TLB Society Human Resources Policy and Code of Conduct
These foundational documents were developed to ensure that TLB meets its ethical responsibilities towards staff and fosters a healthy, safe and supportive environment. We have made these documents available for you to read here.
Payments
We have spent much of the past year rectifying relationships with our key stakeholders, and we are still in the process of doing so. We have been working on fulfilling magazine subscriptions and finalising royalty payments for authors at Brow Books. This has been a lengthy process for our team, and we are immensely grateful for the patience, grace and support that authors and subscribers have extended to us. If you’re a subscriber and you haven’t received an email from us about your subscription please contact us at [email protected]
Publishing Again
Once we have met all of the financial, legal and administrative exigencies of TLB, we look forward to returning to publishing the excellent work you loved reading from us across prose, poetry, visual art and translation. Over the next few months, we will be applying for grants that could allow us to appoint a paid publisher and a paid editorial team. If we succeed in securing funding, we plan to have clear and transparent job descriptions and contracts that specify rates, hours and responsibilities.
We will be working towards a cost-effective digital publishing model that speaks to an allocated budget, to ensure that every writer and editor is compensated fairly and adequately. We have no intention to allow workers to be uncompensated for their labour. For this reason, we strongly hope that we can secure funding to publish again.
Stay in touch
We thank you for your continued support as we work behind the scenes on securing a fair, sustainable and rewarding future for TLB and its members. If you have questions or concerns, please do get in touch. If you wish to offer advice or feedback, we wholly welcome it. If you would like to be further involved in TLB’s future, we will be advertising board member roles shortly, just keep an eye on our socials. Please reach us at [email protected], and we aim to respond to you with clarity and transparency wherever we can offer it.
